Fusion Levels in Multimodal Biometric Systems – A Review
نویسنده
چکیده
Biometrics is an application area in which different biological traits of a person is taken as input for person identification or authentication. This is highly needed for security reasons. Unimodal biometrics is easy to implement as it uses only one trait or modality of a person but it has many drawbacks like spoofing, non-universality, etc. Multimodal biometrics uses more than one modality of a person like face, fingerprint, iris, retina, gait, etc. Spoofing more than one trait of a person is difficult and so these systems are more secure and reliable.

Technical Review of Multi Model Biometrics System
Biometrics refers to automatic recognition of individuals based on their physiological and/or behavioral characteristics. Unimodal biometric systems allow person recognition based on a single source of biometric information but cannot guaranty a perfect identification. Such systems are sensitive to noisy sensor data, non-universality and lack of individuality of the chosen biometric trait, and ...
متن کاملLevel of Fusion in Multimodal Biometrics: a Review
User verification systems that use a single biometric indicator often have to contend with noisy sensor data, restricted degree of freedom, non-universality of the biometric trait and unacceptable error rates. So the need of using multimodal biometric system occurred. A multimodal biometric system combines the different biometric traits and provides better recognition performance as compared to...
متن کاملAuthentication Using Multimodal Biometric Features
Multimodal biometric systems is the consolidated multiple biometric sources, which enable the recognition performance better than the single biometric modality systems. The information fusion in a multimodal system can be performed at various levels like data level fusion, feature level fusion, match score level fusion and decision level fusion. In this paper, we have studied the performance of...
متن کاملFeature Level Fusion in Biometric Systems
Multimodal biometric systems utilize the evidence presented by multiple biometric sources (e.g., face and fingerprint, multiple fingers of a user, multiple impressions of a single finger, etc.) in order to determine or verify the identity of an individual. Information from multiple sources can be consolidated in three distinct levels [1]: (i) feature extraction level; (ii) match score level; an...
متن کاملSemantic Fusion for Biometric User Authentication as Multimodal Signal Processing
Today the application of multimodal biometric systems is a common way to overcome the problems, which come with unimodal systems, such as noisy data, attacks, overlapping of similarities, and nonuniversality of biometric characteristics. In order to fuse multiple identification sources simultaneously, fusion strategies can be applied on different levels. This paper presents a theoretical concep...
متن کاملAnalysis of Multimodal Biometrics by Feature Level Fusion: A Review
This review paper introduces the concepts of multimodal biometrics that integrates two or more biometric identifiers and takes advantage of the capabilities of each biometric to provide greater performance and higher reliability. It also discusses various levels of fusion, the importance of fusion at the feature level and a comparative study using different algorithms for performance analysis.
